Codemasters has officially announced F1 2014, this year’s entry in its high-speed racing series. Further details are due later today.

However, the game may not be heading to PS4 & Xbox One, with ongoing rumours pointing to a last-gen-only release.

Both Amazon France and Amazon Spain have previously listed F1 2014 for release only on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, with an update from self-proclaimed XBLA watchdog Lifelower this morning stating:

“Just saw F1 2014 in Famitsu mag. Coming to PS3/360 on Oct 2nd in Japan.”

It wouldn’t be the first Codemasters title to skip a release on next-gen, either, with last month’s GRID Autosport launching only on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

If it does land on next-gen, though, expect it to run at a smooth 60fps and improve on the game’s physics.

“Our goal is to achieve the most realistic visuals possible,” Codemasters teased last year, discussing the benefits of bringing F1 to PS4 and Xbox One, “and with the next generation consoles offering us more speed and power, we will be in the best position we have ever been in, which will allow us to achieve the level of realism which will enhance the driving and emotional experience for the F1 player.”

Look out for the first solid details on F1 2014 later today.
