The busy Christmas period saw “exceptional demand” for platform exclusives including Wii Fit, LittleBigPlanet and Gears of War 2, according to GAME.

The news comes during a time when many publishers believe games must be released multiplatform in order to maximise sales.

Said the company: “GAME experienced exceptional consumer demand for a number of single format games, including Mario Kart and Wii Fit on Nintendo Wii, LittleBigPlanet on Sony PS3, Gears of War 2 and Fable 2 on Microsoft Xbox 360 and Brain Training and Professor Layton on Nintendo DS.”

As reported by Gamesindustry.biz, sales at GAME were up 16.6 per cent for the six weeks ended January 10, and up 5.4 per cent like for like.

Last week we brought you the news that PS3-exclusive LittleBigPlanet had sold 1.3 million units worldwide. Over 200,000 of those sales were from the UK.
