Semi official Sony blog Three Speech has unearthed some new information on Insomniac Games’ upcoming FPS sequel Resistance 2.

Yesterday we reported that the game will feature two campaigns, thought to be a single-player and cooperative campaign. Three Speech suggests there’ll be even more on offer, with multiple campaigns for solo and group play. Co-op will be playable locally using two-player split-screen and over the PSN for up to eight players.

The expanded competitive multiplayer modes, confirmed to feature up to 60 players, will focus on squad-versus-squad combat in huge United States battlefields. A class system will feature three basic templates: Tank, Special Ops and Medic. The blog also notes that online matchmaking will throw players of the same skill level in games in the hope of creating much closer matches.

The single-player modes will feature new enemies including Chameleon and Stalker, said to sport a handy cloaking ability. Insomniac is also doing some clever stuff with the level design, using randomised geometry to make each play through slightly different.

Players can also expect more enemies onscreen and Insomniac will be further tapping the power of the PS3 to offer improved AI.

Hopefully it won’t be too long until we start to see some high-res screens.
