Hideo Kojima, one of gaming’s most famous auteurs and prominent Geoff-Keighley’s-best-friend, turns 54 today.

The occasion was celebrated in style, with a black birthday cake iced like the BRIDGES teaser image for Death Stranding, Kojima’s upcoming game that nobody really knows anything about. Kojima’s personal assistant Tweeted some pictures, as did the birthday boy himself. Instead of ‘Death Stranding’ the cake says ‘Happy Birthday’. Aww.

Hideo Kojima is most famous for creating the Metal Gear series. It was announced in December 2015 that he was officially leaving Konami to set up his own studio (this was preceded by Konami saying Kojima was jttp://kotaku.com/konami-denies-hideo-kojima-has-left-says-hes-on-vacat-1737501388″ target=”_blank“>ust on holiday, which was quite funny).

Kojima has now put together a kind of superhero team that includes himself, Guillermo del Toro, Mads Mikkelsen and Norman Reedus to work on his new game Death Stranding. It has some action elements, and some kind of multiplayer, somehow. Based on Kojima listening to Icelandic bands, spending time in Iceland, and the black beach in the Death Stranding trailer looking like a famous one in Iceland, Iceland is probably also involved somehow.

Anyway, happy birthday, Kojima-san! We’re certainly interested in seeing your new game, if only to find out what the hell it is.
