EVE Online’s latest expansion, Crucible, is now finally out.
Lead Designer Kristoffer Toulberg has described the development process in a recent blog post on the official EVE Online website, stating that the studio had roughly four-to-six weeks of development time put into the expansion and that it is the best release CCP has offered “for years”.
He promises that next year will feature further improvements on anything “old, rusty and not in good shape”.
CCP’s senior producer Arnar Gylfason previously stated the release will be “something unparalleled” for EVE Online.
The expansion includes refocusing the entire MMO development team on core gameplay, specifically spaceships.
CCP has had a hell of a year after receiving massive fan backlash when it was discovered the team was planning to implement pay-to-win microtransactions. The studio has been impressively open and apologetic so far, so we’ll see whether the expansion brings them back on track with users.
