Epic Games has confirmed it would like to add console development support to its Unreal Engine 4 subscription plan, but is unable to do so at this time because of requirements from Sony and Microsoft.

Responding to a question on Twitter if consoles would be added to the sub, Epic Games VP Mark Rein wrote: “We’d love to. For now you need to be authorized by MS and/or Sony first.”

Rein was quick to add: “I need to stress that UE4 already runs amazingly on Xbox One and PS4! Lots of devs are already making UE4 games on those platforms.”

Yesterday Epic announced its $19 a month subscription plan for Unreal Engine 4.
