February is a massive month for fans of video games. There’s the imminent release date for Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, there’s Pirate Yakuza, Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered, and Monster Hunter Wilds. Away from having to pay a premium fee for any of these masterpieces, there will also be freebies for players to grab. The first Epic Games store February 2025 free game has been revealed, and it’s an award-winning zombie RPG with a unique twist.
First Epic Games store February 2025 free game is Undying
The Epic Games store free game for February 2025 is Undying. This is only available for free from January 30th until February 6th.
It is an indie experience, and it is usually priced at £15.49. Over on Steam, it has a “mostly positive” reception with many praising the gameplay, visuals, and story.
Undying isn’t known nearly as much as many other zombie experiences such as Dying Light, The Walking Dead, or The Last of Us (yes, it counts). However, it is an award-winning zombie experience that has a unique art style.
Award wins listed on Steam include best indie game at Golden Tea 2020, as well as best indie game at Unity MWU China for 2020. It was also nominated for best new indie game at Indieplay Nova in 2019.
As an RPG, you play as a mother called Anling as she attempts to get her son, Cody, to safety. She needs to get her son to safety and teach him how to survive the hardships of the world because she’s infected and thus has very finite time remaining.
You will come across an ensemble of different characters, and you will need to make many difficult choices that shape your narrative. Some choices will lead to characters you meet surviving, while other choices will result in them being sent to the Underworld and shaking hands with Hades prematurely.
In addition to being an RPG with a heavy emphasis on an emotional story, it is also a roguelite. There are 14 major locations in the world of Undying, and there are “unsafe areas” filled with random events. Not only that, but Undying also involved the assistance of David Brevik, “the godfather of Diablo,” to help “design dungeons and make sure looting felt satisfying”.
