Gears of War 3 producer Rod Fergusson insists the imminent Gears of War 3 beta is being staged primarily to help improve the game and the team isn’t setting its sights on breaking any kind of beta test records.

“I don’t know if we necessarily have a target but our expectation is around the one million range – that’s what we’re thinking,” Fergusson told CVG when asked about beta numbers.

“We’re not trying to set any records, we’re not trying to beat anybody for highest number of players on a beta,” he said. “We’re just trying to get enough data to help us make a better game.”

Fergusson added: “As I said, for us it’s about getting enough players playing enough matches over enough time that we can actually learn from it and make changes.”

The Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta begins on April 18 for owners of the Bulletstorm Epic Edition, while pre-ordering Gears of War 3 from GAME or Gamestation will grant gamers beta access from April 25.
