Back in November 2010 Namco Bandai lowered its sales forecast for Enslaved from one million units to 800,000 units. It turns out even that figure was ambitious, with the story-driven, sci-fi action title failing to shift even half a million units worldwide.

The publisher’s third quarter financial results (October through December 2010) reveal that Enslaved sold 460,000 copies during the three month period – it’s not clear if the figure refers to shipped to retailers or sold to consumers.

Only last month Namco Bandai marketing director Lee Kirton spoke of the possibility of a sequel: “I can’t discuss where we are in terms of a sequel, but we’re looking at reviews and feedback from the press and because of the gameplay and quality that Enslaved delivered, we see it as a great catalogue title going forward.”

Enslaved launched for PS3 and Xbox 360 in early October 2010.

Given the Hollywood talent involved – Alex Garland and Andy Serkis – it seems highly unlikely a sequel will be given the go ahead unless a sequel can be produced on a reduced budget.
