Piranha Bytes, the developer behind Risen and Gothic, has shared some more footage of its upcoming open-world action RPG, Elex, which takes place in a post-apocalyptic universe. The video introduces two of the four factions that’ll be playable in the game, The Outlaw and Berserker factions, as well showing the environments they live in, and the threats they face.

The Outlaws (not the mid 90’s rap ensemble), live in the desert of Tavar, where it’s hot, dusty and lethal. Made up of survivors and outcasts at the end of the territorial wars, the Outlaws came together to create a unique and dangerous faction in the pit of Tavar.

The Berserker faction, having found a way to change the mineral element elex into mana, are now transforming Magalan’s destroyed wastelands into a vibrant woodland dwelling. Where other factions bring destruction, the Berserkers seek to offer hope of a better world. As the world of magic replaces a reliance on technology, Magalan will offer all of its people a better future.

Set on the planet of Magalan, after a disastrous meteor-strike which destroyed much of the planet, Elexfocuses on three factions each fighting for survival. The player will play as a pilot who was part of a faction called the Albs, a faction who consume the element elex as a way to remove emotions and be able to make decisions using logic and reason alone. After a crash, the protagonist experiences withdrawals from elex and begins to feel emotion for the first time. Considered a traitor of the Albs, the protagonist must work with and join another faction whilst concealing his own history.

Elex is releasing on PC, PS4 and Xbox One on October 17 2017.
