This year sees the likes of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Uncharted 3, Gears of War 3 and Battlefield 3 hitting stores, and Bethesda believes its The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is up there as one of 2011’s major releases.

Asked by MCV about Bethesda’s expectations for the RPG, VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines said: “It’s our crown jewel, our big brand, I think it is the biggest of the games we have this year. And not just for us but for anybody. In the industry this will be one of the major releases of the year on any platform and across any genre.”

Bethesda was one of the first to claim November as its own, securing the fantastic 11/11/11 release date for Skyrim back in December 2010. The game looks to be on track to live up to its fantastic release date, having featured in our Best of E3 2011 article.

Given the strong following Oblivion earned on Xbox 360 we predict Skyrim sales will skew heavily towards Microsoft’s console, despite a simultaneous release on all formats this time around. While we don’t expect the game to perform similarly to Modern Warfare 3, it’s certainly possible it’ll outsell platform exclusives Uncharted 3 and Gears of War 3.
