While Elden Ring Nightreign is already chaotic with multiple friends all trying (and failing) to take on powerful bosses, one modder has released a terrifying randomiser mod that aims to make the game far more unreliable, and infinitely more scary.
As FromSoftware continues to develop even more horrible post-launch bosses for us to get squashed by, modders are always cooking something up. But is anything more exciting than just pure randomness?
Elden Ring Nightreign gets randomised
TheFithMatt’s Nightreign Randomizer and Derandomizer mod (available here) aims to modify the multiplayer Soulsborne game on startup, giving players the option to completely shake up their game for an added challenge. Additionally, there’s a derandomiser option, allowing for “more deterministic runs” if you want.
The randomiser replaces “vanilla map patterns with randomised ones based on the randomiser seed” every time you boot up the game. There’s a number of different options available, including an option that sticks closely to the original game albeit with the changce that Night Boss selection can place any Night Boss for any Nightlord.
Of course, the real fun and terror comes in the form of the “Extra Random” option which removes placement restrictions from the game that help with balance to create some truly heinous options. For example, the game will permit any eligible spawn point even if there’s no starter camp, or “allowing Shifting Earth Day 2 circle locations which don’t contain the objective”.
The mod allows for a pretty large amount of freedom, allowing players to either auto select a custom combination or customise entirely, allowing players to increase the frequency of Double Night Boss encounters and much more, but there’s still some limitations.
“Some parts of map patterns are not yet randomized, like special events and the spawn point (unless “Guarantee starter camp” is unchecked), enemies within maps and encounters, or additional final circle locations,” the modder explained. “Night 1 and 2 bosses are currently distinct, as otherwise progression will softlock. Also, as a safety measure, encounters (camps and bosses) are only be placed in spots if there is a vanilla map pattern which places them there.”
The modder hopes that they will be able to bring even more randomness to Elden Ring Nightreign with additional development. After seeing the crazy shennigans available with some of the Dark Souls randomiseers, we could get some really weird stuff happening in the future.
Despite this, Elden Ring Nightreign players looking for an even deeper challenge now have something to tide them over until FromSoftware adds more timed Everdark Sovereign fights to the game. With modders working on support for massively increased player counts and the Duos mode FromSoftware literally forgot to add, randomised runs are a fun option to have.
