FromSoftware’s Elden Ring Nightreign only supports solo play or three-player multiplayer, weirdly forgetting the inclusion of duos play. After admitting that the team simply didn’t think to add two player gameplay, the developer has confirmed that Duos is on the way.

Coming in a future update, the developer confirmed that an official two-player option is coming to the game at some point. However, modders have already added a duos option to the new multiplayer game.

Elden Ring Nightreign duos is happening

In a post on social media thanking fans for giving the new spin-off a chance, FromSoftware explained that the “fight is far from over”. Alongside new enemies, classes and more coming in post-launch updates, the team confirmed the existence of duos.

“In addition to the DLC releasing later this year, new additions will be gradually implemented, including enhanced fights against existing Nightlords starting this month, as well as Duo Expeditions at a later date,” the developer said.

While FromSoftware’s version of the mode will have to go through a wealth of balancing tweaks, one modder very easily added Elden Ring Nightreign duos to the game. Yui, the creator of the seamless co-op mod for the original game, was able to add duos gameplay in just four hours.

“I played a little bit this evening and managed to get together a functional multiplayer system without connecting to the matchmaking servers (and therefore not needing to run EAC),” the modder explained on Patreon.

“The benefit to this of course is you can opt to play with just 2 players (instead of matchmaking with a random) and also being able to play mods when they are eventually made for more replayability and customisation, they continued. “There’s also potential for a player cap increase in the future.”

The modder gave another update to fans regarding their plans for a “seamless co-op” Nightreign mod. In another post, Yui explained that, once they crack the player cap, they’ll be able to make multiplayer scale from Duos all the way up to 127 players.

“Once the player ‘cap’ is surpassed, it can be pretty much anything,” the modder said. “Making a mod to support 4 players might as well support up to 127 players (performance limiting), since once the patches required are done it’s just the case of increasing the number.”

There’s still a long road ahead for Elden Ring Nightreign with heaps of updates in the bag. Hopefully, official duos gameplay won’t take too long to be added to the game.
