FromSoftware’s new multiplayer co-op game Elden Ring Nightreign has started to add more powerful enemies to the game in limited-time Everdark Sovereign bosses. As more powerful versions of existing enemies, these event fights are designed to give players a sizeable challenge, and they are.
Elden Ring Nightreign causes 69% spike in players
At the time of writing, the first Everdark Sovereign boss is live in the new Soulsborne game: Gaping Jaw. Players who beat the original version of the boss can find the newer, stronger version of the fight in their Expeditions, and, for many, it’s not going well.
In the wake of the new boss’ release, Elden Ring Nightreign players have jumped back into the game en masse. While player numbers haven’t returned to launch day numbers, Steam Charts alone reports a 69.9% jump in player count in 24-hour peak players compared to the day before.
On Wednesday, June 18, Nightreign on Steam saw a peak player count of 95,597 players all fighting at the same time. In comparison, the new version of the wide Gaping Jaw saw a 69% jump in players. Nice.
While players are jumping back into the game to beat up the newly empowered version of the boss, some aren’t doing very well against it. Elden Ring Nightreign was deemed quite an easy experience overall on launch with a party of three, but some players are finding the new Everdark Sovereign boss to be a significant challenge.
“We asked for hard and they said f**k you guys here you go,” one player said in a recent Reddit thread. “Lmao, I f***ing didn’t” and “Who asked for that?” replied other players.
There does appear to be some strategy to fighting the new Everdark Sovereign boss in Elden Ring Nightreign. While the Gaping Jaw’s new enhanced moveset is dangerously powerful against very strong players, you can stagger the roided-up boss during his enhanced moveset to essentially delete his new enhancements. Of course, that depends if you’re good enough… sadly, I’m not.
