Boss mechanics aren’t the only thing that can end your group’s run in Elden Ring Nightreign. The co-op entry into the Elden Ring world has launched with great popularity among the fans of the original. However, as with most online games, this can lead to various issues. Elden Ring Nightreign isn’t without its share of errors, error codes, bugs, and other problems. Because of that, we’ll cover any errors that we find and offer possible solutions to fix them.
Error codes, bugs, crashes, and other issues in Elden Ring Nightreign
Unfortunately, it’s possible to sometimes run into a few problems while playing Elden Ring Nightreign. Obviously, that’s less than optimal, but there can be ways to fix most issues. These are some of the most common errors and bugs you can encounter:
Error | Likely causes |
---|---|
Fatal Error crash | CPU usage spikes |
Black screen on startup or after loading | V-Sync issues |
Infinite Matchmaking on PlayStation | Server-side bug |
How to fix Fatal Error crash in Elden Ring Nightreign
Crashes most often occur because your CPU is getting overworked and spikes suddenly. This can especially happen if you run several background apps in addition to the game. In addition, sometimes your game can crash if you’re running unlocked frame rates. Let’s see how you can fix this:
- Close background apps: Background apps will continue to use your CPU while you’re gaming. This can all mount up to CPU spikes, causing the game to crash. To avoid that, close any unnecessary background apps while playing to alleviate the load on your processor.
- Lock your frame rate: Nightreign doesn’t play well with FPS set to higher than 60. If you’ve unlocked higher FPS through an app like your dedicated GPU software, we recommend turning the lock back on to 60 for the game. That is because the game is hard-capped for this range, and higher values can often cause crashing.
How to fix Black Screen errors
You may sometimes encounter a black screen when launching Nightreign, or in other cases, right after a loading screen. You’ll hear audio, but the game won’t advance from the black screen. The most likely culprit is V-Sync, and in some rare cases, the VRR setting. We’ll explain how to fix that:
- Turn on V-Sync: V-Sync is a setting that prevents screen-tearing artefacts on your display. Go to Settings and make sure that you have it set to Enabled.
- Turn off VRR: VRR stands for Variable Refresh Rate (and is also known as G-Sync and FreeSync) and is a part of Windows Graphics Settings. Many games benefit from this, but in Nightreign’s case, it can cause a black screen or stuttering images. The fix is simple, just go to Control Panel and search for Graphics Settings. Then, under the Variable Refresh Rate option, turn the slider to Off.
How to fix the endless matchmaking error on PlayStation
Players on PS5 and PS4 have to contend with a bug causing them to be stuck in an endless matchmaking loop. Fortunately, FromSoftware has addressed the issue with a temporary solution. In a post on X, they have suggested the following solution: “If you’re having difficulty matching, please pause the matching process and select to start it again”. It’s as simple as that – until the bug is resolved, simply turn matchmaking off and on again.
