FromSoftware’s new multiplayer game Elden Ring Nightreign may be heavily based off the skeleton of its 2022 original, but there are some key differences between the two. For example, while the original game had a level cap of 713 on launch, Nightreign caps out at just 15.
Furthermore, dataminers cracking over the popular multiplayer spin-off have discovered that the final three levels of Nightreign’s levelling system is almost useless. Who’d have thunk it?
Elden Ring Nightreign stats are weirder than you’d think
As it turns out, Elden Ring Nightreign’s levelling system doesn’t actually make much of a different the further you get through the game. However, to understand this, you have to understand how other stats in the game work.
When playing through Elden Ring Nightreign, you’ve probably (hopefully) noticed that the true stats powering your character are hidden. Instead, your stats are denoted by letters that determine how good you are at a particular action, but each letter actually means something different for each stat.
Popular Soulsborne YouTuber Zullie the Witch wasn’t just curious like most people, but actually set out to discover how in God’s name Elden Ring Nightreign actually works. And it’s far weirder than you’d expect.
For example, upgrading your strength to “S Rank” actually means your character has 70 points in that attribute. However, that same rank on something like intellect only equals 50 points. Every stat has a different threshold for their letter ranks, and it can be very confusing for casual players.
But what about that max level? Well, every time you level up in the game, that level rewards you with a boost in stats. However, with the game limiting everything to letter ranks, it’s actually hard to know what you’re actually gaining from levelling up.
While the actual level cap in Elden Ring Nightreign is 15, the last three levels are essentially useless. Level 13, 14 and 15 only increase your stats by one or two points in each area, making levelling up actually not very effective in the long run.
In the future, Elden Ring Nightreign may even receive a bigger level cap as FromSoftware commits to post-launch updates that add more enemies, bosses and more. If more levels do arrive, will a rework of this levelling system be needed?
