Celebrations are in order at FromSoftware, as new UK chart data indicates that Elden Ring has been a huge success.
That’s according to chart information from GSD (as reported by GamesIndustry.biz), which tracks both physical and digital sales. According to them, the game is now the biggest UK video game launch since Call of Duty Vanguard in November. In fact, outside of the Call of Duty and FIFA series, it’s apparently the best performing game launch since October 2018’s Red Dead Redemption 2.
The data includes participating companies such as Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and Steam. The report claims the first week sales eclipsed both Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Of those sales, the numbers indicated that digital copies accounted for 68% of Elden Ring‘s total sales. A whopping 85% of players on Xbox bought the game digitally, whereas PlayStation saw a 50-50 split between physical and digital.
Sales were also said to be 2.5 times stronger than the previous week’s big release, the PlayStation exclusive Horizon: Forbidden West. Sales of that game slipped by 80% in the week Elden Ring launched, though it still held on to second place in the combined format charts. Last week’s other big release, Codemasters’ GRID Legends, could only manage tenth place.
Elden Ring is out now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC. If you want to know what we thought of the game, check out our verdict right over here.
