The upcoming issue of US video game magazine EGM, reported by 1UP, has the scoop on the start of a new boxing franchise from EA. From the creators of Fight Night comes FaceBreaker, a cartoon boxing title that’s designed to bring more fun to the boxing genre.

Gone are the ultra realistic visuals of the Fight Night series, replaced by arcade cartoon visuals, described as a cross between Ready 2 Rumble Boxing and Team Fortress. Despite its fun visuals players will be able to make full use of the game’s real-time facial deformation, right down to literally breaking their opponent’s face.

“Arcade boxing takes me back to my roots in this industry, and this game signals our shift to adding more approachable fun to our product lineup,” said EA’s Peter Moore.

Once again throwing realism out of the window, FaceBreaker will feature a roster of fictional characters, including Latin lover Romeo and Molotov, a giant Russian with a taste for fighting dirty.

EA’s Game Face technology also makes a return with players able to create custom characters using photos of themselves.

FaceBreaker is in development for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii with more details expected within the next few weeks.
