EA doesn’t expect to be able to complete its acquisition of 2K and Rockstar parent company Take-Two, following the news that it won’t re-issue its $2 billion offer when it expires at midnight tonight.

EA’s pursuit of the Grand Theft Auto IV and BioShock owner has been one of the longest-running game industry sagas of the year following its initial bid in February. The sticking point is EA’s $2 billion offer, which Take-Two believes undervalues the company.

In a letter to EA CEO John Riccitiello, Take-Two’s Strauss Zelnick said it plans to make a presentation to the FIFA publisher which he hopes will enable EA to “understand better the value of our company”.

Responding, Riccitiello said he didn’t believe any deal could be done before the year, but still wants to “work together to reach a mutually agreed transaction”.
