EA and BioWare’s Star Wars: The Old Republic has set its sights on a fight with Blizzard’s World of Warcraft, CEO John Riccitiello has told an audience at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference in San Francisco.
“I was once a World of Warcraft player,” Riccitiello revealed, and despite holding huge respect for the MMO said the publisher is “going right at it” with Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Riccitiello said that although many have tried and failed to launch successful MMOs, BioWare’s class makes The Old Republic different.
“Bioware is probably the highest-rated average developer in the history of games and the history of RPGs – which is a pretty good foundation,” he said.
He also pointed to the fully voice-acted Old Republic, referring to World of Warcraft as a “silent movie.”
