EA has announced that they will soon be making three of their Battlefield titles permanently unavailable for purchase in preparation for the retirement of their online services on December 8, 2023. The games that will no longer be sold beginning include Battlefield 1943, and Battlefield: Bad Company 1 & 2.

According to an official blog post, their removal from digital storefronts will take effect on April 28, 2023. However, those that already have these installments will still be able to play them and use their respective offline features, like the single player campaign, after said date.

With these titles having been released more than 15 years ago, those within the community aren’t exactly surprised with this revelation. Nevertheless, a large number of fans are still predictably disappointed with EA’s decision to discontinue the sale of these iconic creations.

Players within the Battlefield subreddit in particular are taking it rather hard as some have said that Battlefield: Bad Company 1 & 2 were their entry points into the franchise. A few are hoping that the developers will eventually remasters these games so it doesn’t completely vanish from the public eye.

Other players are worried that the discontinuation of these games may mean that other entries, such as Battlefield 3, are going to be following soon. Fortunately, the aforementioned title still has moderately healthy player base, which should help stave off any talks of removal. At the time of writing, EA are yet to address player requests regarding remaking these entries.

Hopefully, these are going to be the only creations that are going to be taken away from the public. But with the gaming landscape being as volatile as it currently is, you never really know what could happen next.
