A “small number of employees” have been laid off from EA Montreal, EA has confirmed.
In a statement provided to Gamasutra, EA said that it had made the “staffing change in our Montreal studio to align with our current development and service plans. A small number of employees were impacted, and we are working closely with each of them to ensure the best transition possible.”
The company adds that the staff changes “do not impact our current development plans”.
While it isn’t known which teams have been affected, a Gamasutra source suggests that the changes “may herald the closure” of EA’s mobile division in Montreal.
Besides EA Mobile, EA Montreal also houses BioWare Montreal and EATech, a support studio that helps provide tech support to other EA teams.
