Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter believes that should EA succeed in its effort to acquire Take-Two, it would be in the publisher’s best interest to delay the release of GTA 4 until the more lucrative fourth quarter.

“I think if EA takes over Take-Two they have an economic incentive to delay [Grand Theft Auto IV],” said Pachter on the latest episode of GameTrailers’ Bonus Round.

While a delayed release would make business sense for EA, it begs the question why Take-Two isn’t also lining up a Q4 release for GTA 4. The answer, according to Pachter, is that Take-Two, “financially, has to get that game out … they need the money. They need to get it out.”

However, with GTA 4 hitting stores on April 29 time is fast running out for EA.
