One of the many criticisms raised at Star Wars Battlefront II’s confusing loot crate system is why the game couldn’t have offered cosmetic changes similar to slightly-more-acceptable systems like Overwatch. EA’s CFO now seems to have given an answer, although it’s not necessarily a good one.

Speaking at the Credit Suisse Annual Technology, Media and Telecom conference, EA’s Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen addressed the matter (as reported by XboxAchievements) saying that EA felt offering cosmetic changes would disrupt the canonical look of the series. This is despite the fact that the game already has options for picking the colour of your lightsaber, and offering optional costumes for Han Solo for pre-orders.

As for the sanctity of the canon, we’re just going to leave this here.
