EA has responded to calls for a ban on upcoming modern war FPS Medal of Honor, stating that many popular video games have allowed players to take control of the enemy.

Earlier Defence Secretary Liam Fox called the game a “tasteless product”, while the Sunday Times had reported players could kill British troops in the game – something EA has now denied.

An EA spokesperson said: “Medal of Honor is a highly authentic depiction of the soldier’s experience in Afghanistan – matching US forces against the Taliban in today’s war.

“Multi-player combat is a long-standing, common and popular feature of video games. In multi-player, teams assume the identities of combatants on both sides of the conflict. Many popular video games allow players to assume the identity of enemies including Nazis and terrorists. In the multi-player levels of Medal of Honor, teams will assume the identity of both US forces and the Taliban.

“The Sunday Times story on Medal of Honor contains inaccuracies. For one, Medal of Honor does not allow players to kill British soldiers. British troops do not feature in the game.”

Medal of Honor is scheduled for release on October 15 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
