EA announces partnership with id Software

John Carmack took to the stage at EA’s E3 conference to talk about id Software’s partnership with EA. Rage, id’s FPS game built on its new game engine, will be published by EA and released on the PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Mac.

At the conference id showed of a brief teaser trailer for the game, but Carmack announced that more will be shown at id Software’s QuakeCon early next month.

The short trailer shown at E3 saw a buggy drive to a desert bar and combat with mutant-like enemies with half faces.

The game is built on id Software’s newest game engine, id Tech5. “RAGE represents a new direction for our games,” said Todd Hollenshead, CEO of id Software. “RAGE is a shooter unlike any other, developed on our cutting edge new technology, and built to the exacting standards id is famous for. We’re excited to have the support of EA Partners to launch RAGE on the world.”

We’re excited to work with id Software to give RAGE a blockbuster launch on the global stage.”

Expect more details on the game from QuakeCon 2008 in Dallas, Texas, which runs from July 31 to August 2nd.
