It’s happened; Duke Nukem Forever has been given a firm worldwide release date of May 6, 2011 – a few days earlier on May 3 in the US.

The thought-dead project was given a new lease of life back at PAX in September 2010 when Gearbox announced it had taken over development and would be finishing the game.

“The moment fans all over the world have been waiting for is almost here,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “May 3, 2011 marks Duke’s return as he unleashes his brash and brutally honest wit on the world. His return is going to be epic and one that will make video gaming history!”

May’s currently looking quite light for new releases, but depending on THQ’s plans, Duke could end up going up against Mars-based sequel Red Faction: Armageddon.
