The Nintendo DS appears to be on a bit of a roll at the moment – the independent NPD Group reports that for the month of May, New Super Mario Bros. and Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day ranked as the No.1 and No.3 best selling games. More impressive is that New Super Mario Bros. was only in stores for 13 days during the period.
Nintendo’s redesigned Nintendo DS, the DS Lite, went on sale in the US on June 11, and reports suggest impressive early sales figures. In the two days following its launch more than 136,500 units of the DS Lite were sold, and, according to Nintendo, the sales are outpacing that of the Game Boy Advance SP launch back in 2003.
The launch of the DS Lite has had a positive impact on game sales, with Brain Age’s sales tripling over the previous week, and sales of New Super Mario Bros. reported as double that of the previous week.
The launch of the DS Lite is now just over a week away in Europe (June 23) and Nintendo will be expecting equally impressive sales.
