Activision has announced that Dropkick Murphys, the punk-rock band famed for their Celtic folk twang, will be opening the Call of Duty XP event in Los Angeles.
“The addition of Dropkick Murphys just makes XP that much more memorable,” said Eric Hirshberg, chief executive officer of Activision publishing. “Few bands fit the bill better-we’re thrilled to have them performing on opening day.”
This follows the recent news that Kanye West will be closing the event – his first public performance since releasing Watch the Throne, a collaborative album with Jay Z.
All XP ticket holders will be guaranteed a spot at both performances.
Call of Duty XP will take place September 2-3 at the Call of Duty compound in Playa Vista, located at 5600 Campus Center Dr., Los Angeles.
Activision will donate 100 per cent of the Call of Duty XP sales to The Call of Duty Endowment, a non-profit, public benefit corporation that seeks to help returning soldiers transition back to civilian life, find work and establish careers.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is due for release on November 8.
