Media Molecule has revealed that the early access period for Dreams is “nearing an end,'' insinuating that its launch isn’t too far away (via PlayStation Blog).

The IMPY Awards is the first celebration event for the free-form sandbox game engine. “We’ve been so impressed by everything our incredible Early Access players have done. We’ve watched people grow into fully-fledged artists, designers, musicians and more. There have been creations we didn’t think possible (and some we’re still convinced are magic),” said Abbie Heppe, communications manager for Media Molecule. I’ve used and played with Dreams, and I know Heppe is hardly exaggerating. Check out the Cyberpunk 2077 demake, or the Haus of Bevis

Nominations are now open for 21 awards in total, including the Creator of the Year, Most Improved Dreamer, and the Wish-I-Had-Thought-Of-That Award. Media Molecule will then collate the nominations into shortlists and winners for a handful of the awards will be voted on by a panel of staff and special guest judges. “Now, you may ask—does this mean Early Access is nearing an end?” Heppe added. “Yes, yes it does.”

The IMPY Awards will be live streamed to Twitch on January 26, 2020. I can’t help but notice that this is conveniently close to Dreams’ rumoured release date. Retailer Shopto had a listing for the title set to release on February 14, 2020. This date was then replaced with “to be confirmed”. Also, the Australian Classification Board recently rated Dreams, suggesting that it will soon be set free. We’ll have to wait and see, but the IMPY Awards are a lovely way to celebrate the fantastic creations that the Dreams community have conjured up.

Dreams will launch for the PlayStation 4 at some point in the future.
