Media Molecule’s Dreams has been rated by the Australian Classification Board, suggesting that the game is getting closer to an actual release (via PlayStation LifeStyle).
Dreams is a sandbox content creation engine for the PlayStation 4. Sony is enamoured with its potential and the creative community that has grown from the year it has spent in early access. There are tonnes of tutorials for how to use Dreams to make music, form branching dialogue systems, and how to pick and choose from a catalogue of community-created assets. Check out this dingy and dismal dungeon exploration, with a hero who either swipes their sword or slings their shield at enemies.
So cool. The Australian Classification Board has given Dreams a PG rating for “mild themes, violence, and coarse language, online interactivity.” It is likely that the ACB rated the single-player campaign and the content creation toolkit, as it has a “mild impact” rating in themes, violence, and language. British retailer Shopto seemed to have let slip Dreams’ actual release date last week. It said that customers could pre-order now to receive the product on February 14, 2020. Then, the tweet disappeared and the listing said its launch is “to be confirmed” instead. Sure, Shopto could have stacked it and mixed it up with a different game hitting the shelves on Valentine’s Day. However, this tidbit of info from the ACB suggests that Sony and Media Molecule are preparing to end the game’s early access period and send it out into the wild very soon.
Players are able to produce almost anything their heart desires in Dreams, and the unique control scheme on the DualShock 4 lets them shape their creations by hand, quite literally. One person demade Cyberpunk 2077 into a retro PlayStation 1 title; another person made this gorgeous vista of a galaxy far, far away; and another person made this impressionistic, peaceful platformer. It’s no wonder Media Molecule wants to collaborate with that community to make new content for Dreams.
Dreams is currently available in Creator Early Access on PlayStation 4.
