The Nintendo Switch version of Dragon Age XI has been delayed as a result of it initially being cobbled together on an older version of the Unreal Engine, its producer has said.

Speaking with GameSpot, Hokuto Okamoto revealed that the game is still a long way off for Ninty’s hybrid powerhouse, although admitted Square Enix initially wanted it out alongside the PlayStation 4 version of the game. However, as a result of the additional development time, the Switch release outlook is ‘still unclear.’

‘Specifically with regards to the development, this game was developed on the Unreal Engine, but the version for Unreal Engine needs to be updated, I suppose, in order to support Switch. In that sense, the development is still expected to take a very long time. It’s still a long ways out,’ said Okamoto-san, via a translator.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, as its official title is known, will be released for PS4 and PC in North America and Europe on September 4. While it’s bad news for Switch owners having to wait, the game will at least still be coming to the West eventually, unlike the 3DS edition.
