Square Enix’s Dragon Quest IX hasn’t made it to European stores yet, but it’s already setting World Records in Japan.

The game’s Chance Encounter mode, which enables players to share game data when they bump into each other in real life, even when not playing the game, has earned the game an ad-hoc wireless record.

The Guinness World Record certificate states: “The most popular ad-hoc wireless game feature is the Chance Encounter mode of Dragon Quest IX, which has been used 117,577,073 times as of 4 March 2010.”

You’ll get to try the Chance Encounter mode when the game launches in Europe on July 23.
