Dovetail Games has announced Dovetail Games Fishing, “a new breed of fishing simulator” due to release on PC in late 2014 and other undisclosed formats at a later date.

Powered by Unreal Engine 4, Dovetail Games Fishing will let players “tackle every step in the fishing experience” by choosing their equipment and rigs before preparing their gear at their preferred location.

Fishing itself, meanwhile, makes use of Dovetail’s ‘Total Cast Control’ system, an “intuitive new casting and reeling mechanism” that lets players find, attract, catch and land their fish. Fishing will initially be based around catching carp, but will “quickly expand” to bass and fly-fishing.

VR support is also being considered to help create “the ultimate fishing simulator”, which the developer hopes will spread “into the e-sports arena”.

“Dovetail Games Fishing will be an evolving live service that will grow and expand in ways defined by us in partnership with fishing experts and our community,” says creative director Chris Roberts. “We believe that this combination of technology, team commitment and community involvement will enable us to create the ultimate fishing simulator, which will also allow us expand into the e-sports arena.”

A load of old carp or a legitimate contender? We’ll let you know a time and a plaice you can pick it up a little closer to release.
