Night Work Games, a new studio formed by id Software co-founders John Romero and Adrian Carmack, has launched a Kickstarter for a new FPS called Blackroom.

The project is seeking $700,000 to bring the title to PC in winter 2018.

Blackroom is described as a “visceral, varied and violent shooter that harkens back to classic FPS play with a mixture of exploration, speed, and intense, weaponized combat. Use fast, skillful movement to dodge enemy attacks, circle-strafe your foes, and rule the air as you rocket jump in the single- and multiplayer modes.

“Blackroom launches with unique multiplayer maps and robust modding support for the community to make diabolical creations of their own design.”

  • Single-Player Campaign – 10 Hours, Leaderboard Challenge Modes
  • Multiplayer – Co-op, 1-on-1 Deathmatch, Arena
  • Multiplayer Maps – 6 Built In + Community Maps
  • Fully Moddable, Run Dedicated Servers, Create Maps
  • New Soundtrack by acclaimed metal guitarist George Lynch

The game’s story is thus: “Blackroom takes place at one of the world’s leading tech companies, HOXAR. HOXAR has created a technology that allows people to be anywhere at any time, creating fully-realized holographic worlds that are indistinguishable from reality, all inside of a giant black room.

“Finding early favour amongst military and police organizations, Blackroom continues to be prized for its life-like ability to train specialists against the horrors of war and urban terror. Even commercial clients have lined up to develop HoloSims that might terrify adults and delight children. Now, though, simulations are being twisted and warped into each other, and blending with something even more sinister.

“In the single-player campaign, you step into the shoes of Dr. Santiago Sonora, Chief hNode Engineer at HOXAR. When testing of their new, leading-edge Predictive Memory technology reveals troubling anomalies that blend the real world with the virtual, you’re sent in with both Boxel and gun to investigate and are swept across a staggering and dangerous array of simulations. Peering into your mind and tapping into your deepest memories and fears, however, it’s clear that the Blackroom is not all fun and games.”
