In the run up to Shadow of the Erdtree’s addition to Elden Ring, Mohg’s role in the disaster came under fire. Thanks to the relevance of entry to the Realm of Shadows and Mohg’s own boss room, it was speculated that the character had been involved in very nefarious activity. Throughout the Elden Ring base-game, Mohg was considered a paedophile, however Shadow of the Erdtree’s lore unpacks this aspect, revealing that he was in-fact being entirely controlled by Miquella. This resulted in the internet’s perceptions turning towards the angle that Mohg beat the allegations. However, a recent discovery that Mohg’s spear is composed of tiny little bodies make things a little more cursed.

The model of the spear comes courtesy of Reddit’s u/catnstuffz, who discovered on closer inspection that Mohg’s weapon is garnished with tiny carvings of bodies. A close inspection is definitely needed when it comes to the spear, especially since with the all of the colour textures applied it’s hard to make out the organic and grotesque design.

When you look at just the spear’s base model, it’s a little clearer that it’s not built out of molten metal, but instead the arms, legs, and torsos of very tiny people. Mohg’s Trident reminds me of ancient bone weapons forged from the skeletons of fallen enemies. It’s a devastating symbol of power, control, and remorselessness. If that is really the case, perhaps Mohg hasn’t really beaten the allegations.

Comparison’s have been drawn between Mohg’s Spear and Enir Ilim, another trademark FromSoftware design. u/Groundbreaking_Arm77 notes that this is a common theme, and that “power is built on bodies,” something especially relevant when considering Marika’s backstory and the origins of the pot-people.

Mohg’s Sacred Spear’s design is yet another example of the breath-taking attention to detail in Elden Ring, which continues to surprise fans with new discoveries nearly daily. Another similar discovery includes that of a third, hidden difficulty in-game, alongside the bottom half of the ‘weird little guys’ we weren’t meant to see.
