AdHoc Studio co-founders, Pierre Shorette and Nick Herman, were recently interviewed by Jake Baldino of Gameranx on Skill Up’s YouTube channel, and the Dispatch developer said that they would consider working with “white whale kind of IPs” in the future. No possible properties were named, but Pierre Shortte highlighted the success of collaborating with Fables to deliver the Wolf Among Us while at Telltale Games.

Jake Baldino asked the two co-founders if AdHoc Studio is more focused on their own IPs or whether they plan to work with existing IPs or a mix of both. To this, Shorette responded, “I think we’re open to everything… there are some white whale kind of IPs that are out there that I know we all have that I think we’d really consider working on, including working with Critical Role”.

AdHoc Studio is comprised of veteran talent from the glory days of Telltale Games. Telltale is famous for collaborating with a broad range of IPs such as The Walking Dead and Batman to even Borderlands. Shorette believes a lot of his career was spent “making a lot of money growing people’s IPs [because Telltale] would often tell stories within an IP without necessarily just tracing over”. The co-founder pointed to The Wolf Among Us, saying, “I think a lot of Wolf fans ended up buying Fables”.

Shorette further elaborated that he isn’t “super into fairy tales,” but he is “into noir crime gritty dramas,” and that was a “way to add to the franchise and see it accepted by groups of people who might not have picked up that comic”.

Dispatch Developer was Working on Wolf Among Us 2

In an interview with Eurogamer earlier this year, Nick Herman said that AdHoc were working on Wolf Among Us 2 with Telltale. Herman explained that “We wrote a season, Season Two. We think it’s better than Season One – and we were on Season One. And yeah, we’re really proud of it”.

Herman revealed that AdHoc Studio “were doing tests” including “cinematics and animation and stuff,” but “they needed more time”. As for why the collaboration fell apart, Herman said, “We [AdHoc Studio] weren’t running the project. It was Telltale we were doing it in partnership with. And we couldn’t wait around and do nothing, so we had to move on to Dispatch to keep the studio moving, and they [Telltale] needed to go on their own way”.

As for the Wolf Among Us 2 that Telltale eventually plan to release episodically, Herman said, “I don’t know how much of our version of the script is going to make it into what they end up making”. Finally, the AdHoc co-founder teased, “But if one day we were able to make the thing that we wrote and were in the middle of directing, we think people would love it”.

Unfortunately, we haven’t seen anything of Telltale’s Wolf Among Us 2 since its 2022 trailer. It is still in development though, so here’s praying we see it at The Game Awards in December.

Regarding the future of AdHoc, they are now thinking about the possibility of making Dispatch Season 2. They are also partnering with Critical Role to make a game set in the world of Exandria.

Dispatch has been a massive success, selling over 1 million copies in just 10 days. Its player count has doubled thanks to positive word of mouth, and it is one of the highest rated games on the PSN store with a near-perfect rating.
