Disney and Junction Point’s Disney Epic Mickey sold a massive 1.3 million copies during December in the US, reports the LA Times.

The sales figure has been attributed to people familiar with the data compiled by the NPD Group, but seems accurate given the game’s sixth place in the December chart.

Disney Epic Mickey was released in the US on November 30, 2010, exclusively for Wii.

Given the relatively lacklustre showing for the game in the UK, its success in the US comes as a surprise, especially when noting the difficulty third-parties have had in creating a Wii hit.

While Ubisoft has managed to create hits outs of its Just Dance and Rabbids franchises on Wii, these both offer casual gaming experiences. Disney Epic Mickey is a proper 3D platformer that core gamers can enjoy.
