Battlefield V's mysterious battle royale mode is not in fact being developed by series creator DICE, according to a post on Reddit by EA's Ben Walke.

The post didn't exactly reveal much of any additional information, with Walke simply commenting, 'Royale is being made by a different studio, not DICE.' Perhaps unsurprisingly, he didn't reveal the identity of the mystery developer.

Walke was responding to a thread that claimed members of the Star Wars Battlefront 2 team had been taken off the project to work on the battle royale mode.

DICE hasn't said much about the battle royale yet, and all we've seen so far is a very brief teaser at the climax of Battlefield V's latest trailer. One thing we do know is that it won't be available at launch, however.

Battlefield V is due out on October 19 for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One, with an Open Beta due to kick off in early September.
