Blizzard’s Diablo 4 is one of the most popular ARPGs around, alongside Path of Exile, but the game’s already-massive player base is set to receive a huge boost in numbers.
After a year of trying, Blizzard’s ARPG will finally release in China following a governmental approval by the China National Press and Publication Administration. With millions of gamers in China previously unable to play the game, this should bring even more gamers to the ARPG.
Diablo 4 officially comes to China
Diablo 4 was one of seven foreign games approved by the National Press and Publication Administration during the month of July alongisde 127 Chinese-made games. Via Yicai Global, the game was accepted alongside Marvel Mystic Mayhem, a free-to-play turn-based mobile RPG.
Over the course of 2025, the Chinese administration has allowed just 62 foreign-made games to be playable in the region. While extraordinarily low, this number is actually a record high for the group which frequently blocks the majority of popular games from Chinese denizens.
Blizzard has massively focused on getting its games into the massive Chinese gaming market over the past half decade. Via WoWHead, the studio successfully renewed its partnership with NetEase to bring both World of Warcraft and Diablo Immortal back to China in Summer 2024.
It’s worth noting that China has always been a huge market for Blizzard. Hearthstone, World of Warcraft and, of course, Diablo have proven extremely popular. Following the World of Warcraft’s return to China last year, over 2 million MMO players signed up just to return to Azeroth.
Diablo 4 has suffered from some major issues over the years as Blizzard focuses more on fleeting seasons instead of major mechanical upgrades. However, there is still a huge year ahead for the satisfying, gothic action game.
Blizzard has already teased the next major expansion for Diablo 4 which seems to be bringing players back to Westmarch from Diablo 3. With major gameplay improvements also in the works, 2026 appears to be a great year for the game.
