There has been so much discussion surrounding Diablo 4’s upcoming Season 1 release. However, PC players are hoping one issue will get fixed in particular. Multiple players on PC have reported memory issues when trying to run Diablo 4 at even medium-low settings.

Taking to the Diablo 4 Reddit user WombatInSunglasses reported an issue stating that their game is always lagging due to Diablo 4’s constant need to take up 16GBs of memory when being run at medium-low setting at 2560×1440. They said, “I can’t even page through menus, much less leave town, without the game freezing for a few seconds. I open task manager and memory usage is above 90%, always, even if I’m just standing still solo.”

While they were quick to note that they don’t technically have the best PC components they did say that Diablo 4’s PC performance is still well below the standard of what they’d expect. They said, “I know my system doesn’t have the newest components, but I can run any other game on high at 60 FPS with no lag whatsoever. Scrolling through my D4 settings I have everything set to low, medium, or off.”

This issue doesn’t seem to be limited to those with mid-low range PCs, as another user who recently upgraded to a 4070ti with 32GBs of RAM noted similar issues. However, they did say that while it didn’t fix every issue with the game’s PC performance it did allow them to play on Ultra settings with 200+ FPS. They said, “What really made the difference was turning off the acceleration in Bnet settings, almost zero problems now.”

Other players were not optimistic that this issue would be sorted anytime soon with one player saying, “Personally, I don’t get my hopes high on this vram leak issue. on WoW SL there was a similar graphic issue that took them 12 months to fix it (flickering textures on DX12) 8 months on denying and blaming GPU drivers manufacturer for it.” Whether this issue is addressed before Season 1 seems unlikely but it’s not impossible.
