GameSpot reports that a video shown at Square Enix’s DK Sigma3173 Event revealed further info regarding the development of Final Fantasy XIII on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 – notably that development of the Xbox 360 version has not yet begun.
The video was shot by series designer Tetsuya Nomura who posed questions to Final Fantasy XIII director Motomu Toriyama.
“We haven’t changed the direction of the development. We’re making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later,” said Toriyama.
Given that the game is to be released outside of Japan on both PS3 and Xbox 360 simultaneously it suggests the release will be held back until the Xbox 360 version is ready. No Xbox 360 version has been confirmed for Japan so Japanese gamers are unlikely to face the same delay.
Toriyama also revealed that as of July 29, 2008 no Xbox 360 development tools had been received.
“I’m telling them to not think about the Xbox 360 right now,” said Toriyama. “We can think about it after the development kits arrive.”
He continued: “We aren’t going to change any specifications [of FFXIII] because of the multi-platform announcement… Right now, we’re fully concentrating on the PS3 version.”
