Eurogamer reports that Sony plans to launch another PSP refresh before launching an all new handheld gaming platform.

According to anonymous publishing sources a PSP-4000 will launch in late 2009 and we can expect a similar iterative upgrade to what we’ve already seen with the PSP-2000 and PSP-3000. As for the PSP successor, Eurogamer’s sources were unable to offer any solid info, but did reveal that developers are already working on games for the platform.

Earlier this month Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president David Reeves told MCV: “… there are currently no plans for a PSP2. I go to Tokyo quite a lot and no one has referred to it – I think they have their hands full at the moment.”

Sony Computer Entertainment UK has refused to comment. For some ideas on what Sony could do with the PSP 2 check out VideoGamer.com’s recent feature.
