Teaser artwork and a leaked fact sheet is reported to have revealed the first details of a Tomb Raider reboot from Square Enix.

A Game Informer teaser and website suggest we’ll be getting a full-on reveal inside the magazine’s pages on December 6. However, images of a supposed fact sheet were posted (since removed) at fourplayercoop.

The game is said to feature a young and inexperienced Lara Croft, left shipwrecked on a mysterious and remote island hidden off the shores of Japan. The island is mostly deserted, but for mysterious inhabitants which Lara must hunt down, or become prey herself.

The large, open-world island, alive with creatures, weather, and natural events, also features menacing underground tombs. Artwork shows Lara on horseback, making use of a bow and arrow.

Back in September PC Gamer reported that the new Tomb Raider game would feature a large-open Japanese island setting, details backed up by the latest information. The ‘a survivor is born’ website also links in very nicely to the idea of Lara Croft origins story, the game detailing how the Lara Croft as we know her today was created.

An open-world game would be a major shift in style for the franchise, which while previously having featured large tombs, have never given the player any great freedom.
