The Destiny beta will begin on Wednesday, July 23 on Xbox One and Xbox 360, Bungie has confirmed, one week after it launches on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 next Thursday, July 17.

The beta will run through to 11:59pm PDT on July 27 on all formats, although PlayStation players will not be able to access the beta on July 21 or July 22 owing to scheduled maintenance.

Guaranteed access to the beta will only be provided to those who pre-order the title from participating retailers.

“As we prepare to launch our first Beta on multiple console platforms around the world, we are excited and eager to open the flood gates,” said Harold Ryan, Bungie’s president. “We already love to play Destiny, and with your help we can be ready for our launch in September.”

Details of the beta were announced alongside a new trailer for the game providing a taster of what to expect from next week’s event, including character customisation, story missions and a co-operative Strike mission. Give it a watch below.
