After hundreds of hours in Destiny 2, you’ve likely heard the same few voice lines over and over again. Fans of Bungie’s free-to-play shooter have called for new voice lines to be recorded for one particularly mouthy NPC.
Following the release of The Final Shape, Destiny 2 is in a weird spot. With a spin-off recently scrapped, fans are worried about the game’s future, especially as updates have caused NPCs to feel lost in time.
Destiny 2 Players vs Eva
In Destiny 2, human NPC Eva Levante stands around in the cold waiting for the return of her deceased grandchildren. Despite being part of the live-service game for years, space grandma Eva is still standing in the same place spouting the same three lines.
Players on the Destiny 2 subreddit have called for Bungie to finally let players give Eva a coffee and shut her up. After being subject to the NPCs limited voice lines for four years, players are getting very annoyed at the elderly woman’s limited speech.
“’Carlooos… Mariaaaa…’ for YEARS now,” the Destiny player said. “Oh and: ‘It’s easy math guardian.’
My brain rots every time I hear these lines.”
“If she doesn’t shut up about Carlos and Maria, I’m gonna make sure she joins them,” another said.
Bungie has a lot to fix
As a game that’s been updated for almost ten years now, Destiny 2’s NPCs are in dire need of a rework. Despite the state of the game’s universe changing multiple times, in-game characters are still referencing events such as The Red War in public spaces.
While these events are still key to the universe of Destiny, they’re also far less eventful than, say, the defeat of The Witness. This means that players are left feeling out of time whilst exploring Destiny’s social areas.
With Destiny 3 reportedly not in development, and Marathon possibly delayed, Bungie’s future seems set on extending Destiny 2. With this in mind, it’s not unreasonable for fans to expect the state of NPCs to change, or at least see a significant rework to the current population.
