DefJam Rapstar developers 4mm Games and Terminal Reality are being sued by record label EMI due to failing to clear the rights to the music featured in the game – according to a report by Hollywood Reporter.
EMI is reported to be seeking damages totalling $8 million ($150,000 for each of the 54 music tracks), and wants a cut of net profits. To make matters worse for the developers, EMI is said to own the rights to distribute, display and publicly perform its tracks.
The report claims that attempts by EMI to notify 4mm and Terminal Reality have been ignored.
