Glen Schofield, the creator of Dead Space, has shared that he is “making calls” because he believes “somebody new could buy” the beloved IP from EA. Schofield recently told IGN he is optimistic of a sale because he believes the new investors could potentially seek to offload redundant IPs to recoup some of the cost and $20 billion of debt.
Schofield also shared the publisher has no plans for Dead Space as he recalled speaking with EA recently and being told they’re “Not interested anymore”. This was despite Schofield promising he could make Dead Space 4 while saving EA “30 to 40 million dollars” on development costs.
Believing there’s an opportunity the IP could be sold, Schofield said he is “already making calls”. The Dead Space creator further elaborated that he believes EA would be open to a sale because he doesn’t think they made any money on the remake, and the publisher is unwilling to adapt the series into different mediums such as movies and a television series.
EA’s Dead Space Remake came out in 2023. While the game was an excellent and faithful adaptation of the original 2008 classic, it reportedly underperformed in sales expectations. This resulted in rumors that a remake of Dead Space 2 was cancelled, however, EA debunked these rumors, and it instead appears that a remake for the sequel was never planned.
Obviously, we would absolutely love Dead Space 4 to happen as it is a fantastic horror series with so much potential. This potential extends beyond just video games as even horror legend John Carpenter has previously shared his desire to make a Dead Space film.
Unfortunately, EA seemingly have no plans to use Dead Space for anything other than selling overpriced Issac Clarke skins in Skate.
