Dead Space 3’s alleged resource glitch, which lets players farm infinite resources, was intentional, EA has claimed.

The “mechanic”, which was uncovered last week by GameFront, was “deliberately designed” to let players harvest respawning resources, EA claims, who has confirmed that it has “no plans to issue a patch” to alter it.

“The resource-earning mechanic in Dead Space 3 is not a glitch,” an EA spokesperson told GameFront.

“We have no plans to issue a patch to change this aspect of the game. We encourage players to explore the game and discover the areas where resources respawn for free.

“We’ve deliberately designed Dead Space 3 to allow players to harvest resources by playing through the game. For those that wish to accumulate upgrades instantly, we have enabled an optional system for them to buy the resources at a minimal cost ($1-$3).”

The alleged feature, which was uncovered by GameFront last week, makes Dead Space 3’s controversial in-game micro-transactions redundant by letting players repeatedly harvest resources at specific points in the game.

EA has been criticised by some fans for implementing micro-transactions into the game. Additional resources are used to craft new weapons and upgrade the player’s rig.
