Dead Rising 4 is a timed exclusive to Xbox

UPDATE: Microsoft has confirmed that Dead Rising 4 will remain an Xbox One console exclusive for one year, and a Windows 10 PC exclusive for 90 days.

That means it could arrive on other PC storefronts, like Steam, for example, 90 days after release on December 6. It won’t, however, be available on any other console until at least one year after launch.

“‘Dead Rising 4’ on Xbox One is developed by Capcom and will be published in partnership with Microsoft,” reads a statement provided to GameSpot. “Fans will be able to play ‘Dead Rising 4’ first on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC this December. It will remain a Windows 10 exclusive for the first 90 days and console exclusive on Xbox One for one year.

“We’ve had a close and longstanding relationship with Capcom including the launch of Dead Rising as an Xbox 360 exclusive and Dead Rising 3 as an Xbox One exclusive. We’re thrilled to partner with Capcom once again to help bring their ambitious vision for Dead Rising 4 to life.”

ORIGINAL STORY: Dead Rising 4 is a timed exclusive to Xbox One and Windows 10 PC, not an outright exclusive, according to online reports.

According to a tweet from the game’s developer Capcom Vancouver, players will be able to “play it first on Xbox One and Windows 10”, suggesting it could come to other platforms at a later date.

Meanwhile, a user on NeoGAF claims to have been told by a Capcom Vancouver representative that the game is a 1-year timed exclusive to Microsoft, again suggesting that it could appear on other platforms 12 months after its release this holiday.

Confusion about the game’s exclusivity follows Microsoft’s E3 press conference earlier this week, where the platform holder made no reference to whether the game would be a permanent or timed exclusive.

The game’s box art, however, says that the game is an “Xbox One Exclusive”, with marketing exec Aaron Greenberg later confirming that the game is being published by Microsoft in partnership with Capcom.

While unclear, it sounds as if it may be a similar deal to the one Microsoft made with Rise of the Tomb Raider, which launched exclusively on Xbox One and Xbox 360 last November, with a release on PC following shortly after. A PS4 release is expected later this year.

Dead Rising 3, meanwhile, has never appeared on any other platforms outside Xbox One and PC.

Dead Rising 4 launches on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC on December 6.
